The AREA Tokyo Design Award was designed to nurture young designers and promote their works to the world.
The first award was held in 2020, and 20 students from the Interior Design Course of the Department of Industrial Design, Musabino Art University participated in the competition. The students created new furniture based on the theme of "alienation," which was invented by the German playwright Bertolt Brecht in the 1920s.
In September 2020, a presentation and jury meeting was held with designers and experts from various fields.
The judging panel selected five excellent works, which were developed by AREA Tokyo designers and various production workshops for commercialization of the award-winning works.
Two of the five works were ultimately selected for commercialization.
In October 2021, they will be released as the new "ALIENATION" series.
